I republished this website on 8/03/23 after a ten-year hiatus. I will be
adding much more, bit by bit. I haven't thought of a snappy title yet...

I'm harvesting Black Soldier Fly eggs using cardboard "eggies" suspended over a stinky tub of food waste.
I'm building a BSF hutch 3 x 4 x 6 to raise BSF for the
larvae production. Search the web; you'll be fascinated.

BSF egg harvesting: Cut strips of cardboard into one-inch by six-inch strips (any
dimensions, actually). The cardboard preferably has large cells. Rubber band them
together and suspend them OVER strong, smelly food waste. BSF do NOT lay their
eggs on food waste as flies do, and the waste does not need to be rotting. They
prefer crevices and holes above the food source. When the eggs hatch in four
days, they fall into the matter.
Tasty and hydrating! Slice four thin sides off the cuke, forming a
rectangle, then slice diagonally. The flat bottoms help them to NOT roll around
as the chicks trip all over them, and they will. They absolutely love them!
Chicks do love 'em some cukes!

The only cracked egg out of my last USPS delivery... and it turns out to be
a double yolk? What are the odds?
Terry M. hatched a double once... His remarks were hilarious. Ask him!
Got House Flies? You're LUCKY! Harvest their larvae. Fill a Sterilite
with some stinky food and let the house flies do their thing. The big brown
ones are Black Soldier Fly maggots. Containing them is best done with
several tiers of bins within bins. They seem to get tired of climbing all the
walls. Watch the harvesting video below.
